Happy New Year!

Fell sick... Flu and slight sore throat, but I was reluctant to stay at home. So went out to spread germs... Most likely victims were Jeremy, Yang Chao, Zheng Bin and Gwen. We had supper at Bedok Feng Shan 85 Market. Enjoy the kopi shop style.. haha... Then we went 洛阳大伯公宫 to pray... This was the first time in Loyang 大伯公 after they have shifted to their new site. I like the temple, quite grand. Maybe the temple is rich, thats why able to make the temple more grand.

But in general, it was an interesting experience. There is also a Islamic god 拿督公. Saw Indians worshipping 大伯公 together. Then Chinese worships Hindu gods together. Realised Singapore is really a Racial Harmony country. haha...

Bowling Session at Downtown East

Just had a bowling session at Downtown East with some of primary school friends (Youde, Zhong Yan, Huimin and Ting Ting).

Alittle disappointed, first game I got 99, and second game 101.
As Downtown East Bowling system was new, really curious how does the turkey looks like... haha... So my target for the day was set to be above 100 points with a turkey. But this time round my ruthlessness (the way I throw my ball) didnt bring me much glory. Haiz...

Nevermind... hehe... Will see it the next time... hoho...

Was surprised that Zhong Yan played quite well. This was the first time I saw a lady friend play this well. In fact I feel that she still "put water". Maybe let Youde and myself to look better... haha...

A Lonely Swimmer Again...

Been flown Aeroplane this Morning...
Reached Tampines Safra Pool around 9.30am.

Swam around 10.10am, still no one.
Rest for awhile as I was trying to figure out whats the strange "linging" sound when I was in water and at the same time wait for the ES gang to arrive...

Till 10.20am, no one... I knew I would be the lone ranger. haha...
Completed my 30laps & got out of the water.

So sad... haha...

Presentation Skill...

Today, there was kind of a debrief for the project.
I was a little disappointed in a way when the consultant said that my colleagues performed better as he felt that many times my colleagues could understand and relate better to what he said than I did.

Before I continued, I just want to literate that I feel that my consultant and my colleagues didnt do anything wrong and there wasnt any politics involved. I just like to share my reflections.

After hearing that I was a little surprised, because all the while I felt that my technical knowledge was better. Networking, UNIX, ability to relate to systems, I thought I scored better. As a result, I didnt.

I evaluated myself. Some possibilities:
1) I think too highly of myself due to over-confidence. Which most of the time fell on me when I got too complacent. Which I believe is also one of the factors that contributed to the feedback.
2) Attitude. By means, my joking way of talking. PR-ing, yeah... I may have done a great job. But up to actual working, sometimes I can feel that alot of people feel that I wasnt serious as I was akways happy and laughing.
3) Big picture way of viewing things. Maybe have been thinking to be CEO, so only looks at big picture... Realised that at my level, I should pay more attention to details. Because those are the stuffs that are really important. Points for me to score GOAL. And I feel that this was also one of the factors why I did not manage the Boot Camp project well....
4) Presentation skill. I feel that my colleagues has a better presentation skill than I do. I could see that he didnt understand the whole thing at times, but he could phase it very well. I can only blame myself, why cant I present as well??? I believed besides presentation skill, another factor is also my command of English. Although compared to primary and secondary school days my English had improved alot, it isnt enough.

Conclusion:
Add the following to my 2009 resultion:
- Suppress my complaceancy
- Be more details
- Improve in my English and Public Speaking skill

Just like to re-literate that I feel that my consultant and my colleagues didnt do anything wrong and there was no involvement in politics. Just like to share my reflections.

I will like to take this chance to tell anyone who is reading this posting that even one maybe very capable, but if he doesnt manage to present himself well, he will lose out. I feel that one way to improve is to join Toastmasters Club. If u ask me, join which club to join? I will tell u Tampines Changkat Toastmasters Club! In a nut shell, I believe as well as Toastmasters Club is concern, every clubs will try their best to help their members to improve and excel in Public Speaking skill.

Christmas....

Kind of bored at home...
Parents went 1 day JB tour, Sis went out. Alone at home... haha...
Too lazy to explore Solaris and start writing stuffs in my new Organizer... haha...

As for Christmas Eve... Quite enjoyable... Know 4 new friends of Zhiyu's, but most likely will become 'Hi' or 'A' friends... hehe...

KTV at Liang Court Party World: realised the whole Liang Court was just renovated. Now becomes higher class... Even the party world is more high-class... hehe... Also realised the shopping mall "Central" was around that area. Always saw Central advertisements, but dont know where is it... haha...

Then dinner at Brewreks: alittle xpensive but the portion was huge, so quite filling. Service was excellence! Only 1 thing to comment, the chicken in my chicken sandwich was like rubber. 不好吃... Saw someone order their burger and pork ribs, looks GOOD! hehe...

Gift Exchange: I got a Santa Clause hat with a block game. Alittle regret didnt open the Company's gift exchange gift... It was a name card holder.... haiz... now I need to go & buy my own... Sianz...

Then a moment where no one wants to decide where to go & do what, so mingle outside of Central awhile then proceed to Settlers Cafe. Actually I was alittle regret to join Zhiyu and Teck Liang to go Settlers Cafe... haha... When I left Settlers Cafe and walked to City Hall MRT, I delibrately dragged my feet. I felt I was crawling to the station... haha... Fortunately there was an unoccupied seat, I slept all the way to Tampines (apprx 30min). That was refreshing... But still tired... Continue to drag my feet till I reached home to Zzz... haha...

An Incident

Dont know why out-of-sudden this incident came out from my mind.
It goes like this:
Encik Gan was marking the parade GOH attendance. When he called the person's name, he also asked the height and whether the person wore a spectacle.

Then came to this particular guy (Derrick who wear a spec), Encik Gan asked him, "Do u wear a spectacle?" (I thought this was a stupid question to ask when someone was wearing it, but nevermind.)

Out of everyone's surprise, he replied, "No."
Encik Gan repeated his question "Do u wear a spec?" (which I feel was silly too, but nevermind.)
Then Derrick kind of "woke up" & replied, "Yeah, I wear specs."

Then here comes ME, the commentator "WOW!!! Superman, wear spectacles for fun."
hehe...

Past Events in 2008

While transferring the Events & Activities of 2008 to my official record book, realised that so far there were 40 events & activities that I recorded.

About 11 jobs interviews (first interview, second interview, briefing, causal interview). Maybe due to this interviews that added up the numbers.

So now need to think the targets for 2009, then buy a 2009 diary & get prepare for 2009!!! wahaha... hehe...

A Joke told by my Dad...

This happened to this couple. As the man's job required him to outstation often and stay overseas for 1-2months before he could come home. To fulfill his needs, he also had girlfriend in overseas.

For this particular business trip, his trip was shortened to 1 week.
One night when he was asleep, he heard someone knocking at the door. Still half-awake and thinking he was still in overseas, he tapped his wife on her shoulder & said "Wake Up. Your husband had come home. How?"

Then the wife replied, "Aya, dont worry... My husband wont be back in another 1 to 2 months time." Then she continued to sleep. Zzz...

Morale of the Story:
Half-awake situation is one of the Man's weakest link. Anything can come out from the mouth, unknowing or the brain assuming the environment that will cause one to say or make wrong decisions.

Singapore Flyer - 061208

Yesterday went Singapore Flyer. Free tickets from Singapore Technologies as our family day.
hehe...

But realised the flight was ok...
Alittle too bad, as the weather wasnt that good when I was taking the flight. Still lucky that didnt rain..

Maybe the experience in Taiwan was thrilling as the carriage was alittle wobbly when someone just moved around within the carriage. As for Singapore Flyer, it was very stable. Maybe thats why I didnt feel that interesting.

Some friends recommended that the flight was better at night as the lightings were great! Think I wont take the flight again unless friends from overseas came or some other special reasons.

Toastmasters Club Meeting - 4/12/2008

I did my Project 6 on 4/12/2008.
Project 6 is about vocal variety.
Time Taken: 7min 12sec (Just Right!) hehe...

What I Spoke:
What is fear?

Fear is an emotional response to threats and danger. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus such as pain or threat.

Where does fear come from?

Fear believes to come from anxiety. Anxiety is the troubled feeling in the mind caused uncertainty about the future.

Then where does anxiety come from?

Anxiety comes from stress. It may help a person to deal with a difficult situation, for example at work or at school, by prompting one to cope with it. When anxiety becomes excessive, it may fall under the classification of an anxiety disorder.

The creation of fear begins with a scary stimulus and ends with the fight-or-flight response. Stimulus can be spider, cats, or formless such as darkness, news article like the recent Mumbai terrorist attack and China Sichuan Earthquake. As for the response, from the term fight-or-flight, which means one will either fight for his life or runs for his life. This is an instinct of every animal. But what really make us to determine to fight or flight? There are 2 paths involved in our fear response.

One of them is low road which is quick and messy while high road takes more time and delivers a more precise interpretation of events. These processes can happen in us simultaneously. The concept behind the low road is “take no chances”. For example as I can recall, I was chased by a swarm of bees while playing basketball near my neighborhood. My first response was to run for my life. So this is a form of low road process.

As for high road, high road process is much more thoughtful. It considers all the options. “How did I react previously?” “How did Indiana Jones react to bee chase?” “What kind of bees are chasing? Honey bee or hornet?” These questions will pop out so to allow us to decide to fight or to flight.

How do we know we are fearful?

Due to our brain’s chemical reaction, when we feel fear, it will cause our heart beat to be faster, our breathing to be faster and our muscles to be tightened. Besides rapid heart rate, fast breathing and tightening of muscles, we will also experience in a rise of blood pressure and increased sweating.

Other effects such as nightmares and phobias may occur. I remembered that day when I was attacked by the bees. That evening, I was in fear. My imagination drove me crazy. I kept thinking that the bees would come and attack me. I shut all my windows and was unable to get into sleep and even broke out in tears. The moments when the bees were chasing kept on replaying in my brain just like a defective player. Finally fell asleep but awakened by nightmares.

Many specifics phobias can be traced back to a specific triggering event, usually a traumatic experience at an early age. For instance, a person’s fear of dog. Perhaps he was bitten by a dog when he was young. Even 20 years later, the person’s brain still associates the sight of a dog with the pain of a bite. Therefore, whenever the person sees a dog, the brain will signal to the person as a fear.

Panic is another effect of fear. Panic is an immediate physical response to unrealistic and irrational fears. This can have a huge affect on both emotion and physical well-being – as well as your ability to reach your full potential. I had this experience in the swimming pool when I was young. I wasn’t a good swimmer. At that point of time, while swimming my goggles flipped. I remembered, I just screamed for help. Help! Help! Help! At the same time struggling kicking, punching for breath. Then a warm hand caught hold of me. It was my instructor, he scolded me “Do u know u are very near to the wall?” I woke up & realized the wall was only half arm length away from me. Looking around the pool, everyone was looking at me. I lost, not because I was embarrassed. I had totally defeated by fear and panic. Lesson learnt panic will not just cause one to feel lost; panic will also make one lost the survival capabilities.

How to overcome fear:

1. Learn about the thing you fear. Uncertainty is a huge component of fear: Developing an understanding of what you're afraid of goes a long way toward erasing that fear. Then train yourself to do it. Start small and work in steps. Slowly build the familiarity with a scary subject that makes it more manageable. A very good example is Toastmasters Club, helping us overcome the fear to speak in public.

2. If u feel that fear is getting over u, take a moment to pause. Close your eyes, take a deep slow breaths and focus your attention on the sound of your breathing. And try not to let your mind get carried away with negative thoughts. Keep focused and concentrate on the “now”. By living in the moment, u will meet the need in front of u as it arises without getting caught up in the “what-ifs” and “should-haves”.

3. Seek help. Fear is not a simple emotion. If you're having trouble overcoming your fear on your own, find a professional or someone familiar to help you. There are lots of treatments for fear out there, and no good reason not to try them under the guidance of someone with training and experience.

4. Another unconventional way was to eat a sweet. After a shock, our body consumes a large amount of glucose so to prepare for the flight and fight response. By taking in sweet stuffs, it can help us to replenish our blood sugar levels. In additionally, research has shown that by eating sweet stuffs, it makes us happy. In this case, we can be calm and more optimistic to handle the upcoming situations or events.

Conclusion:

To conclude, stress makes us anxious, while anxiety will make us feel fearful. Fear is unavoidable, but we can reduce the impact by preparing for the fear, seek help from professionals and calm ourselves by pausing and having sweet stuffs.

With this, I hope everyone will have a fearless future ahead. Thank You.

hehe... I thought I performed pretty well this time round. Only felt that at the beginning have some problems how to start & almost forgot my speech. This time round, I memorised my speech again. Thought that this was the best way, at least for me. It really able to gain some confidence when I memorised the whole speech. Think I should do that for the next few projects, and dont act tough! haha...

Heard a friend saying this job for during Dirty Dozen brief a few years ago.
Whats the difference between Pressure, Stress & Panic?
One will feel the Pressure when his GirlFriend got Pregnant.

Must really think of ways to improve... haha...
Once stands up there, the brain seemed to be not functioning. Blank!!! But when I was in kopi shop, i became another person... Could think to anything to talk about... Perhaps thats the fear of Public Speaking!

Today only left with 1 swimmer, which was myself... haha...
Daniel & Jeremy had RT, Yang Chao wanted to study, Zheng Bin should have his own things to do.
And Xiaoping & Ronald who just out of Losers Clubs had headache, dont know is it because of their girlfriends... haha...

But still managed to have lunch with Daniel, Jeremy, Xiaoping and 大嫂... But can see that Xiaoping not feeling well... haha...

Today, pool was not filled with alot of swimmers. As usual filled with alot non-swimmers, using their butts to clean the wall of the pool. hehe...

My First Name Card

So now I can sing 吴宗宪 - 小姐这是我的名片... wahaha...

ST Green Month - 15/11/2008

15t November 2008, marked ST Green Month. I was "volunteered" to help plant a tree at Admiralty Park (Woodlands).

Went KTV with Xing Yun, Xing Yun's Bf, Xinyi and Zhiyu the day before, sang till 2am... Slept about 3.30am & woke up at 6am... Shag... Nevertheless, went for this event & planted a pathetic tree... hoho... But found that Admiralty Park is really big. Amazed by the size... Good for hiking or maybe discret couples... haha... Nice experience with the Park... Like to go back to feel the nature again.

My Favourite Tissue Wrapper

Still remembered discovered this favorite by Mathew about 4 years. haha...

Tired...

Think that my 4-5 months of easy life ruined me a little...
haha...
Since a long time I didnt feel this shag, but at the same time excited...
Given an assignment to be Project Manager...
Trying to understand that what is the assignment as a whole,
at the same time need to know my work allocated in detail,
at the same time needs to know what a Project Manager should do,
at the same time to keep morale moderate as everyone is blur blur about the assignment,
at the same time reading & understanding all the report sample and example,
at the same time to help my direct superior to do research finding and
at the same time organise an event.

Kaoz... In general, I feel that my performance so far was ok. Only feel that when i got alittle stress-up, i felt irritated easily and hence talked louder and "alittle" more less coutesy to people who accidentally irritated me... haha... Oops... Sorry....

Think back longest hours in work... hmmm
1) Noel. Consistently for 2-3 weeks worked from 8.30am-12midnight/1am daily. 1 night even knocked off at 2.54am. Still remembered that time thought to wait till 3am to earn that extra dollars, but too tired for that 6mins. Punched my card & went home. That night also had my scariest taxi ride. The driver was an old man. I have no obligation with old people. What worried me was he used his body weight to navigate a turn! And when expressway, he raced with a Merce vehicle... These 2 actions made me fresh throughout the journey... haha..
2) Air Force. Doing programming project. 8am-1.30am. Luckily encik Lum let Jew Yong to go home first, or else I will have to walk out of the base enjoying the midnight breeze....

But dont get me wrong... I didnt do OT in the company... I just worked from home... Thats even sadder... haha...

Toastmasters Club Meeting - 6/11/2008

I was only there for about 1hour.
Going to send my sis & hurried back home to carry on with my work assignment...
Nevertheless, still learn quite a bit in that hour.

Quotes:
- To Teach is to learn twice.
- An Evaluator is like a catalyst of a Speaker.
- Use not so offensive words such as "I suggest that", "my impression is that", "it may have been better if".

A Lame Joke

Saw this joke in Fabian's Blog: http://mylifeinalog.blog.friendster.com/2008/09/i-like-lame-jokes/

A bus stops and 2 men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated conversation.

The lady sitting next to them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of them say the following:

” Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more! Two asses, they come together again. I come again and
pee twice. Then I come one lasta time.”

The lady can’t take this any more,
“You foul-mouthed sex obsessed pig,” she retorted indignantly. “In this country. we don’t speak aloud in Public places about our sex lives.

“Hey, coola down lady,” said the man.
“Who talkin’abouta sex? I’m a justa tellin’ my frienda how to spell ‘Mississippi’.”

Thinking of Singles

Recently went for quite a number of gathering...
Have a conclusion...
FTK are all the singles males & females doing???!!!
1) We were talking about some martial status of some friends and we mentioned some of married & quite a few even gave birth. Then the lady friend said, "So what are we doing here?"
2) A guy friend's friend claimed that by joining the dance club, we may be able to know alot of single ladies.
3) Many of my guy friends complained that they are unable to get a girlfriend.

Gals are complaining... Guys are complaining...
So whats the problem now???
That triggers me... Are the guys too 宅男 or wood?? Or are the gals too picky? hmm...
I feel that both side have to responsible for this... haha...
It needs to hand to clap.

On the other hand... I am a wood + 宅男. haha.... Oops...

A bad lame Halloween Joke

If guys were to go to a Halloween party, we will have to do some make-up and dressing up to suits the occasion.
But for ladies... That will be simple. They can just go to the party without make-up... hehe...

Ace Ur Job Interviews with the Power of NLP

After Tennis, went to "Ace Ur Job Interviews with the Power of NLP" Workshop conducted by Toastmasters Club. Chin Hui was the workshop facilitator. (NLP = Neuro Linguistic Programming)

Have quite a few of take-back from the workshop:
1) Go to an Interview as if that that is the only interview one will be having. Because the mental state will react as according to TRY & MUST. If with the TRY mentality, most likely it will be only a TRY outcome. On the other hand if it is a MUST mentality, one will do anything to get the job.
2) Need to know ourselves:
- Whats our beliefs & self-worth
- Whats our Unique Selling Point
Many times we may feel that what we do in our current job everyday was just a routine, and it isnt anything great to say about and boast about. BUT this is not the correct mentality! If thats the case, how are we going to go through the interview? We need not to boast, we can just try to relate the tasks we did to the job u are applying, even if industries maybe different. But at least it can hightlight individual's attitude and soft skill capabilities. Another issue on this point, somehow we feel embrassed when we said "We Are Good." haha... I feel that we are humble people, partially this is also a sign of lack of confidence.
3) Before interview, try to set our mind. Think of smething good. Something that make one confident. Because once something bad falls in, one's brain will keep on relating that bad things & eventually affect ur mood and confidence for the interview.
4) Show Interest (I think I am lacking in this area... haha...)
- Search for the company's information. What are her core businesses/products, stock price?
- Ask quesion. "Whats the Training & Development opportunity?" "Future direction of the company?" "What the company expectation of me?"
- After the interview, sent a Thank You card or email.

A sentence Chin Hui used that I feel is important:
"Let the interviewer feels that it is a commitment, not a transation."
This shows the one is serious about the job.

Loner...

hmm... Today I forgot what the actual topic Selena & I were talking, suddenly I mentioned that I was actually a loner... haha... But with my past 6mths record, it was really hard to say I am a loner... haha... Taiji, Tennis, Swimming, jogging, KTVs, bowling, entertaining people on MC/leave, blogging, looking for job, go tampines interchange look at gals, chiong, Toastmasters and Japs...

To be frank, I feel fortunate to know Xiaoping, Jeremy, Ronald, Daniel, ZhengBin, Yang Chao, Guo Cheng, Gwen and Yen Hao. Without them, I wont have joined the Losers Club, East side Tennis Club and East side Swimming Club. Without joining these clubs, I believed that I wont have enjoyed my life so much...

Still remembered quite a few years back... I was so bored and my morale was so low until I was not looking forward for tomorrow nor even the next minute. Till to an extend that I felt to end my life, cause that time I felt so meaningless to stay alive. Then took up part time degree, things started to get alittle better as I had less free time, lesser time to think of what to do to occupy myself later. So eat, breath and irriatates people until today... haha...

Not too sure did I share this part of my life with anyone before, even if I did everyone should feel that I was joking or talking cock... haha... With my hehe haha character, I am quite sure quite a number of people dont quite believe it.. But WHY NOT??? Everyone has their LOW times. I was just lucky that my cheerful character lasted slightly longer than other people who were not as fortunate.

To people who feel to end their life... Think of ur family... Get yourself occupied. Due to monetary problem, then must even get more occupied to earn the money... I understand it is easy to be said that done. BUT WHAT CAN WE DO besides moving forward? We are actually no different with an ant in a hive. At times, we dont have much choices, to stay survive thats the only way. So much about this until I seriously feel that it is easier to stay alive for other people than for ourselves... Just to fulfill the requirements of other people, and work is done. Easy, isnt it? haha...

Busy Long Weekend

25/10/2008:
Morning went for a 3.2km jog at Tampines Stadium...
I think weather was hot, I was sweating profusely... Feel so SHIOK & Shag... haha...

Then Afternoon went to Yu Chang's Wedding...
Food was ok, but was a pretty well gathering with my Air Force friends... haha...

Then Night... Met Xiaoping, Qwen, Jeremy, ZhengBin, Neo, Daniel, Shao Feng & xxx (sorry...) at St James... I had been looking forward for this outing for very long... In general, it was still fun. Just feel that we should have got into DragonFly earlier... hehe... But found mono, boiler & power house were ok too... But feel that I enjoyed myself further in Luxy (Taipei). Quality of gals, I feel were ok. But in St James, I realised there were so many tables & chairs, how to dance??? I saw most of the people chit chatting more than dancing. So found it alittle strange... Another ridiculous issue was they stopped us from going in when they felt they the clubs were full. For fire safety, I understand that the officials had to stop people from entering. But problem lies that we were already inside the building!!! Then what the hell???!!! Pay money to sit at lobby? I seriously feel that the management of St James should do something about this issue. But one thing I liked, St James didnt deaf me for 2-3days & Luxy did.

26/10/2008:
Slept till 11am then woke up. Went to Calista's house. Not a house warming, but we volunteered to help warm the house. hehe... Then after that, we went to the Hotspring of Singapore.

It is located in Sembawang Airbase. U will have to park ur vehicle at the HDB car park. Then walked to the point. It may not be as glamous as what we see in Japan & Taiwan, but I feel it has its own charm. The whole place was smelled with Sulphur, water was very very very hot. People who liked to go, I feel it is advisable to bring ur own pail & towel.

After dinner @ Sakae Susi, we went Night Safari. This was my 3rd visit. It has its charm too. But maybe my curiousity to animals wasnt there, so I just followed the crowd & played along... hoho... Thanx to Calista! Drove me back, so save my cab fare... hehe...

27/10/2008:
Morning was free, online for a while. Then after went to meet Yan Yan @ Tanjong Pagar. I was kind of shocked. This was the first time I saw Youde & Yan Yan after Pri 4... haha... To be frank, I dont really remembered Yan Yan, somehow knew her & dont really know why I know her name... haha... As for Youde, we were in Choir thats how we knew each other. But after the Choir had disband, kind of lost contact until Monday. haha... Huimin, I think we met last year for KTV.. Amos, just met in June in our 6B gathering. As for Ting Ting, we really knew each other when we were in Poly as we were the Student Union GL. As for another lady... Peishan... Hmm... I feel she looks like another friend of mine, HuiQing. Except HuiQing is tann, Peishan isn't. I find her familiar (maybe because she & HuiQing looks alike), but I am quite sure that we didnt even talk for a single word with each other before. haha... But whatever... haha.. But I feel this was an good opening for a bigger Yu Neng Graduates 1994 gathering... haha... See how it goes then... hehe...

ToastMasters Meeting - 22/10/2008

Today went for a Joint Meeting at CairnHill CC (near Newton MRT).
Food was good, only feel that the CC is alittle old... haha... Suitable to make horror movies with it.
This meeting I presented my Project 5 - Body Gestures.

Presents:
1) Thumbs-Up Gesture
2) Okay Hand Gesture
3) V-Sign

Rather disappointed with myself this time round... In fact was very disappointed...
Old mistakes made by same person...

I paused for too long... I forgot what I gona to say... Sianz... Next one MUST do a GOOD one... Must really manage my time more efficiently... Still find myself dazing at times... haiz... Then whenever I made a mistake, my tongue will come out... Must correct my habits...

Realised something about myself... My strength is also actually my weakness... The laughters... For causal talks with friends, it became a strength. People remembered me. But when up to a formal presentation or speech (time to be serious), it becomes my greatest weakness. People may feel that I was not serious & lack of confidence in what I had said. As what Rose (my Evaluator) said, "Even with mistakes, just continue. Because nobody will know." No one will know unless someone point it out... haha... This also reminded me about the importance of talking with confidence. When one talks confidently, even he talks rubbish, people will feel that he makes sense & buys his idea. On the other hand, another person may know alot of things but when he sounds not that confident. The credit will go to the person that talked rubbish. I should have known this already... But still make the same mistake... haha...

My Ah Counting: 1er, 5 repetitions

They also invited a Laughter Therapist... I feel that almost "killed" by her... First time I laughed till sweat... In addition, felt hot. Just like going for execrise, but felt more tiring than exercise... haha... Kept on "hahahahahahahahaha".... Shag... Maybe still unable to appreciate the process... But was an eye-opener... hehe...

A long chat with 妹妹

haha...
Today 妹妹 called about touring to Japan next year 2009 November....
Come On...
Next yr November leh...
Is it alittle too early to talk abt it??? haha...
Oops...
But I could feel that she was very excited and looking forward for the trip... haha...
Until now, beside 妹妹 and future Brother-In-Law, may have my neighbours and Qiaowei...
Decided to go in November because told by my neighbour and friend, saying that November is their Autumn, everything will be in orange... hoho... To be frank, I am looking forward too.. haha... Went Japan in March during the Sakura, it was GREAT!! haha...

Another Week...

It was another week over...
But this week was better, caused my pay had come to my account... Pay Day!!! wahaha...
Since a long time money have not been transferred into my account... haha...

This Saturday, played a tennis tournament match my Ronald... He won 2 sets... So sad...
My tennis skill is still not mature yet... Lotz of faults & out... Must reduce the self-induced mistakes... hehe..
(Ronald liked to have Ice Milo)

Even if it was an play-play tournament orgainsed by Xiaoping, we were also serious about participation and sportsmanship!

Then after went to ToastMaster Club Division Compeition as audience... Didnt enjoy much... Maybe due to the warm morning at Tennis court, I was having headache & tired... haha...

Later in the late evening, went supper with Poh Soon Kim & Beng Chye. This was ah hoc organise by Ah Poh, as he would like to pass us his wedding dinnner invitation. We had a long chat... haha... Too bad that Er could not make it... Saturday night 10pm, he was still working... Poor Wei Yuan...

Sunday:
Swimming: 30laps.
Then treated the Swimming club lunch at 505. hehe.. Cause my first pay after Air Force...
Then went 光音庙 to pray... I think this was the first time I met difficulty on the way to pray... It was raining cats & dogs... Heck it, I still carried on my journey with my umbrella & cap. When I reached the temple, my bermundas were half-drenched... Sianz... Also couldnt do anything about it, so just carry on to do what I need to... haha...
Went Sim Lim Square after praying... Found out technologies fly... What I used to know were instantly expired... Have to pick-up again... haha... Initially thought go Suntec to find Selena. Learnt from her that there was bone marrow donation at Suntec, but planned fail due to raining... haha.. Maybe next time ba... hehe....

钟汉彬, 加油咯!

ToastMaster Meeting - 16/10/2008

I was late again... Reached around 7.40pm...
At least there was improvement... haha...

Today was an equally fun meeting. This time, i was an audience... The last time I was an audience was my first meeting in Tampinese Changkat... haha...

As usual, there were many beautiful words and phases used:
- Change can be hurt, Grow can be Painful.
- Growth is the only evidence of life. (Now I understand, why my father was unhappy when he didnt see his plants grow)
- Freely U give, Freely U receive.
- ghoeti = fish
- recapitulate: normally we used as re-cap.
- operative speaker

Then after the meeting, went for a drink with ToastMaster friends.
The usual coffee shop & drink stall uncle... He let us know some of the nicknames given for the drink:
- Milo = "tuck jiu" (kick ball)
- Chrysanthemum Tea = Ah Huen (阿花)
- Chinese Twas = "Teo Ghue" (Fishing)

The above I can understand where their nick comes from... But there is one that I dont know the origin:
- Ice Milo = "Hao Dai" (yaya papaya, proud)
Whats the relationship? Only proud people ordered Ice Milo?

Watching TV...

haha...
Tonight no Taiji as Shifu not free...
Fortunately, Channel 5 broadcasted "The Rundown" by The Rock.
Quite exaggerating, the actors will never get hurt or die... haha... Some more can dodge bullets...
In general, I feel the movie was still ok... Enjoyed watching...

Seriously forgot when was the last time sat in front of the TV... I think was a documentary on Pacific War... haha...

After relaxing, need to carry on with my Toastmasters Project 5... Need to present it next Wed... haiz...

A busy week...

Mon - Taji
Wed - Basic Japanese Language Class
Fri - Meet Ruth (my financial consultant), then Shopping
Sat - Tennis, Sleep, Facial, then 2nd uncle's house for dinner
Sun - Swimming, Sleep, Sell Bernard's phone, Dinner at home, Homework...

haha...
Slightly get used to my new life, but heard that economy is going to collapse... Sianz...
Wednesday was my first Japs lesson... Unlike Chinese, I can still say that the characters know me & I dont know them... For Japs... We arent close at all... Totally dont know!! haha... Recommended by 师姐 at Tampines North CC, it was taught by a Japanese woman... Thought that it maybe a good chance cause according to 师姐, her English was not very good. So i can practice more... hoho... But alittle shocked that there were about 30 students... haha... Around 4-8 guys... Mostly ladies, & mostly not really mature ladies... Many looks like students or people just stepped out to work... hoho... Of course there are some uncles & aunties... In general, the class was fruitful... Yamate!!! hehe...

Friday: nothing much... Met Ruth.. A quick summary of all my stuffs... Met a new friend, Yang Long during our discussion. Then I walked Mustafa, hopefully to get some new office shirts and pants and bag... But in the end, bought a pair of swimming goggles, tennis racket, tennis balls and a pair of pants... haha.. Racket cost about $65, it may not as good as Xiaoping's one, but feel that it is better than Guo Cheng's one.. haha... Relatively light, but the front portion was slightly heavier so when pushing the balls will need more stength... Nvermind, I got lotz of it... hoho...
Then as for the shirts... Found that the services at Mustafa cannot make it... As there was sign saying "Do not open the new Packet." As I was looking for shirt, the sales personnel chatted among themselves... Haiz... Also affected my mood to buy from them and paritally I was alittle tired... After trying out a pair of pants and straight to the cashier...

Saturday:
A good day to try out my new toy... Found it really suits me... hehe... After lunch with Jeremy, Xiaoping and Guo Cheng, went home & had a nap. Then went for my facial appointment. After that went 2nd Uncle's house for dinner... Just amazed me... Why my aunt can alway cook such good food!!! haha... Then went home to prepare for my Toastmasters Project 5...

Sunday:
As usual, Swimming at Tamp Safra. This time I swam 30 laps. Then went home take a nap. Initially thought of donating blood at Tampines Changkat CC, but saw too many people queuing. Knowing that unable to make it for my next appointment, so didnt donate... Haiz... Then went ahead to meet the phone buyer... Cock ME... Go wrong place... Arranged to meet her at Sengkang, but I went Hougang... No choice, took a cab... Cost me $5.50 & I was about 15min late... Sianz... Eventfully, the item sold... hoho... Reached home, continued to prepare Toastmaster projet then did the homework for the Japs lesson... haha... So now, I blogged them... hehe...

A busy week... Feel a little tired... But I like this... haha.. No matter how is still stronger than doing nothing at home... wahaha...

Toastmasters Meeting - 4/10/2008

Today went Queenstown Community Center for Toastmaster Meeting...
I was appointed as the Test Speaker for the Event... By the way, I feel that the been the Test Speaker is very pitiful because u will have to be critise by 6 people that u dont know! haha...

When I reached there, i got a shock... It was held in Auditorium... I walked in... KAO!!! So many people!!!??? I became very nervous as I thought it was just another normal ToastMaster meeting, maybe with about 30-40people... There were at least 80-100 people in the Auditorium... Sianz...

But had already promised Michael & in additionally, thinking since I was going to speak, what would be the difference if it was 40 or 100 people... So closed 2 eyes & chiong...
But the feeling was the worst during the tea break, couldnt really enjoy the food... What a pity...

Then was my turn to perform.
I was called upon on stage & I jumped onto the stage & shook hand with the contest chair. But was called to come down again because I didnt have my mic on... haha... Somehow, i still felt calm... haha... Maybe due to my title "Stupid ME", such stuns came in just right! haha...

Got up the stage again... GO! GO! GO!
I opened my speech by asking "What was the stupidest thing have u ever done?" & Continued by saying mine was to leave the ATM forgetting to take the money... But i think I did not express it very clearly... haha... Oops... I knew that many of the audience had no idea what I was saying, but HACK CARE, just continued... haha...
I shared 2 incidents:
First Incident: Gal with Ice-Cream
2nd Incident: Gal at ATM

My timing was 5min 28sec.

Then it was time for the Evaluation Speakers.
Summary of Evaluations:
- 2nd story was too long, too draggy. May like to add in more varties of stories into the speech.
- More movements at the stage.
- Too nervous
- More effective in transitions
- Tendency to lean back when i speak
- to be more well-dressed
- Shorter pauses
- Make sure that Audience were clear of ur msg
- More vocal varties
- lastly, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE

They also commented that my speech was simple, using simple English... Of course, my English standard isnt that high, i dont think I can even pronounce them properly... haha...

But to be frank, I feel that I also feel that I did not prepare myself sufficiently as more of my practice was done in silence... As for pauses.... I seriously had no idea... The only pause that I remembered was when near the end of the my speech. I was about to finish my speech & I hadnt seen the green light! Sianz... Then kicked in a few sentences that I back-up but didnt really practiced them before... Cause when I practiced by myself, most of the time was about 6-7min. Maybe due to nervousness, I spoke slightly faster this time, so caused the speech to be 5min ++ sec.

In general, I thought it was a very interesting exposure... Learnt alot that day... hehe...

Out of Sudden Feeling Guilty...

haha...
Just came back from Toastmaster Meeting & eager to clean myself, but my dad was trying to cling on to a conversation with me... Initially, i felt ok about it as mum was still using the bathroom...

But once mum was out of the bathroom, my urge to shower overwhelmed me! I kind of just wanted to end the conversation immediately & replied "Yeah... Yeah..." without really knowing what my dad was saying... This was the first GUILT.

Second GUILT:
My mum was out of the bathroom. She said that she was not suitable for the job that she went today for orientation today. Too many things to remember & long hours of standing... With the urge to SHOWER, i replied "Up to u lor...." & closed the door of the bathroom...

The bloody hell... Now feel guilty...
早只今日何必当初...

Worse... blog my in filial... haiz...
think partly they were too boring at home, happy to see someone back home... but then "someone" just "rejected" them like this... haiz...

Reflection... Reflection... Reflection...

Toastmasters Meeting - 2/10/2008

haha...

But today didnt do a good job... Simply cannot concentrate, I was day-dreaming... Worse, I didnt know what I had dreamt about... haha... Luckily, Virginal was around, sitting besides me, helping...

Or else, I really dont know how to tabulate the reports...
haha...

Thank You, Virginal...

Singapore pools in front of 书店

hehe...
Last Saturday attended my cousin's wedding at Stamford Raffles (City Hall).
To be frank, really have to thank her. Because I will not go to that area as Formula One race was on. haha...
While walking around the area, found something interesting at the basement...
Singapore Pools in front of MPH (书店).... haha...

Thought that was interesting... No wonder none of the hot picks won the race... haha... Oops...
At Singapore Pools, there were still quite a few of their staffs to assist people who like to bet on F1, they will help/guide/assist u to gamble... I thought that was a sweet way to earn money... haha...

Some more pictures on the surroundings

Third Day of Work

haha...
New working environment...
Still trying hard to adopt it...
Firstly, lotz of gals to see... I believe quality comes in quantity... haha... Oops... Sounds very perventic... hoho... If post to unit, I dont think will have such scenery anymore... haha... Cause in Air Force, this was very rare. Mostly all man... & maybe this is one of the reasons why I didnt manage to socialise as well as in Air Force... Some time handling ladies, as experience in Poly, cannot be too friendly initially. Will scare them... haha...

Secondly... Higher transportation cost & meal cost... Haiz... Although food nearby are good, but now need to spend more on fill my stomach.... Then Oct, transport hikes... will only have $0.15 rebate instead of the current $0.25 as I will only change 1 bus, total will add $0.18 per trip, $0.36 a day more than the current $1.93... haiz...

Thirdly... How things are done... Still remembered last time, everytime needs to report to someone or someone will be in-charge, so somehow is clearer... Now... u are at your own... U need to search & ask for the answer... Example, today there was a fire drill... haha... I still remembered in Air Force, the first thing to brief the new-comers was the fire-assembly point. I wasnt told where was it & I believed I wont ask also if not for the fire drill... In general, when the drill started, just followed the crowd... I truely believed, I believed alot of people have the same thinking as me... If there will be a fire, dont think will this orderly... But to be fair to the employer, because people come in & out often, really difficult to enforce. Unlike military.... haha...

As for assertiveness, I am not worry... I feel that I am fairly assertive. But still cannot see or feel the near or coming future... haha... Now can only do the best and hope for the better! haha... Isnt it the best way to survive? hehe...

Last Day of "HoneyMoon"

haha...
Last day of Honeymoon already...
Excited about new job... Seriously, dont know what to expect...
As OBS taught me "Expect the UnExpected".

But for the last 2 days, I had enjoyed myself alot.
Saturday, went Ronald's house for BBQ and played 7-Up. Not too sure is it a blessing, as I drove there. So I didnt drink. Can see that all of them were alittle drunk... haha... Especially Zheng Bin... But really funny to see that... Too bad that didnt manage to video cam it... haha... Since I was not drinking, I would eat... I was damn full... Feel bloated, didnt mange to sleep till about 3.45am... But playing this game, reminded me with my poly freshie life and GL life... haha... Punished was to eat something and that something might have just picked up from the floor or some other un-reliable source... haha... It was fun! At least it didnt make me feel that I wasted my poly life... haha... Besides 7-Up, at that time was also played 007, frog jump into water, 黑白配 etc... haha...

As for Sunday... Surprised to see ZhengBin at swimming pool... haha...
As for myself, still managed to finish 20laps before leaving the pool...
After that we for KTV sessions. Participants were Gwen, XiaoPing, Ronald, ZhengBin, Daniel and myself. Maybe because of yesterday's alcohol, many of us didnt perform as well as expected... haha... Still impressed with ZhengBin's rap... haha...

As for now...
Preparing stuffs for new job:
- Ironing of Shirts & Pants (New Shirts bought at G2000 during GSS)
- Shoes
- Bag
- Writing materials

Most important, MENTALLY! Somehow feel EXCITED now... haha... Have been unproductive for the past 2 months... Everyday surfs net and plays game... Haiz... Most disappointed is did not go WuDang Mountain... Haiz... haha...

All The Best to Myself!

Another Book Read

This is the Volume 3 of the Series. The book is about Qin & Han Dynasty.

Brief run-through how life during Qin Dynasty...
Due to 秦始皇's suspicious character, he made many many rules until it was so inflexible & almost doing anything & everything was against the law. But he had his achievements. Great wall, Canals for irrigation and Burning of books... haha... If he did not burn all the books, maybe today we will have alot of different Chinese characters with the same pronunciation and meaning. After burning all the books, 刘邦 as a Han promoted Han characters that formed the current Chinese characters.

As for the portion of Han Dynasty, I feel it was rather detail. But concentrated in the unstability of the government after the Emperor passed away, achievements of 汉武帝,汉光武帝, the rise of 东汉(Eastern Han) and the death of 韩信...

Achievements in Han Dynasty: (my personal opinon)
- Silk Road
- Making of Paper
- First Female Leader (Lu 后)
- Peace with the borders (this is the part where 王昭君 comes into play)
- A strong foundation for Chinese culture
- Technology advancement in Engineering (Mechanical), Flood control and Irrigation
- Buddhism influence in China

Below is the historic listings for the leaders in Qin &Han Dynasty:

After reading... I seriously feel that once human is powered with authority, fame and wealth. They will just go mad and start to do things in a reckless way. What makes thing worse, if is the government that do things recklessly (子乐: 苛政猛于虎 ). Lesson learnt, government that starts not to listen to their people will start to fail in their politics career. But maybe before that happened, there needs to have alot blood shed before the actual peace comes... Because 子乐: 国民好比是舟, 百姓好比是水, 水能载舟, 也能覆舟.

Really admired Confusious... How he manage to think of such things... Still applicable after a few thousands of years... haha...

A poster for Tampines One

This is 1 of the Poster of the new coming Shopping Center in Tampines, Tampines One.

Realised of the problem about the poster until lately Xiaoping reminded me that I was using a camera-phone, so took a picture of it.

The problem lies on the phone.

The model is Nokia 6030... A year ago, this phone was widely used in SAF compound as it is a non-camera phone... The question comes... So the 4 beautiful ladies posing at a non-camera phone to take picture???

Bagus!!!
